Back to School Jewels

ONE Small Organic Initial Fine Silver Charm Necklace. Something About Silver.
The kids are going back to school within the next couple of weeks (yay?!). And with a new school year comes back to school shopping. Sure, you have shoes, clothes, pencils, notebooks, and backpacks on the list, but what about a little something extra?

The prospect of a new school year tends to bring out a mixture of emotions in kids, including excitement and nervousness. Why not give your student a boost of confidence by gifting them something special they can take with them into the classroom? A personalized sterling silver necklace, bracelet, or ring from Something About Silver would be an excellent choice.

Artsy, unique jewelry is definitely on-trend (which, of course, is of the upmost importance to most school-aged kids), but Something About Silver jewelry offers something more. The jewelry you pick out for your child can be customized with their initial, name, inspirational word, birthstone charm, or favorite gemstone. This may be just the thing to get your kid excited about going back to the classroom!

Getting More Use Out of Pendants

Sterling Silver Chains. Something About Silver.
You found the perfect pendant. It incorporates your favorite colors, is neither too large nor too small, and really lets your personal sense of style shine. Best of all, you just know you are going to wear it all the time, but then you don’t.

You may put it on often, intending to wear it with many different outfits, but then it’s back to the jewelry box for your favorite pendant before you even leave the room. It just doesn’t look right.

Rather than the actual pendant not working with your outfits, it may be necklace it is on. Different shirts have different necklines, and different necklines call for different necklace lengths. For example, a scoop neck may look best with a 16” or 18” chain while a turtleneck may require a 20” chain or longer.

To get more mileage out of your favorite pendant, consider picking up sterling silver chains in varying lengths. Now that your pendant can be worn with multiple outfits in your wardrobe, your pendant may just spend more time on your neck than in your jewelry box!

No Jewelry in the Pool Please!

As a jewelry enthusiast it is almost painful to write this, but it must be said. There are some places jewelry just shouldn’t go! One such place is the pool.

Sterling silver should never be placed in bleach, including chlorine. It will accelerate tarnish on the metal and prolonged exposure to harsh chemicals could cause your jewelry to deteriorate. What does this mean for avid jewelry wearers? Take off all sterling silver jewelry before taking a dip in the pool or relaxing in the hot tub.

Recommendation: leave all jewelry at home when you are planning on going swimming. If you must bring it with you, also bring along a small pouch to place the jewelry in while you are enjoying your swim to reduce the risk of misplacing your jewelry.

The pool isn’t sterling silver’s only enemy – so is the shower. Yes, you should also take your jewelry off before taking a shower or bath. It’s the soap that’s the problem in the shower. When soap repeatedly gets onto sterling silver jewelry, residue can build up. This residue will cause your jewelry to appear dull. To minimize the amount of cleaning your sterling silver will need, remember to take it off before jumping in the shower.

Hot Jewelry Trends: Arm Candy

The latest looks straight off runways and magazine pages all have one thing in common: lots and lots of arm candy. Yes, the hottest ensembles incorporate bangles and bracelets galore. No matter your age or style, you can easily make this runway look work for your everyday life.

I Love You More bracelet. Something About Silver.
While many of the runway looks have bangles and bracelets going halfway up the model’s arm (and this can certainly be a fun look to rock when going out), this can be a bit much for everyday life as a busy employee, mom, whatever. So what is a fashionista who actually needs to use her arm to do? Par down the look of course!

A nice way to look on-trend while enjoying functionality is to stack up 3 to 5 bracelets on the same wrist. These bracelets can all be identical or they can all be different while still looking like they belong together. A fun (and less expensive way) to get a custom arm candy look is to mix bracelets and bangles you have with a few new pieces.

As always, Something About Silver can help you create a personalized look for you with its bracelets that are classic and yet right on-trend! For example, the I Love You More bracelet is a simple yet interesting design that will almost certainly play well with other bracelets and bangles you already have in your jewelry wardrobe. Or consider getting the Mixed Metal Charm bracelet, which will go with bracelets of all metal colors and incorporates another trend – the two-tone look!

Gifts for Grads, Mother’s Jewelry, and more….

A Mothers Love Charm Necklace. Something About Silver.
Summer is in full swing, and with summer comes graduation parties, baby and bridal showers, and weddings. All of these events allow you to catch up with family and friends while providing you with an excuse to go shopping for yourself and loved ones!

A great gift idea for recent grads, soon-to-be mothers, and brides (and bridesmaids, by the way) is a piece of personalized sterling silver jewelry. Jewelry is always appropriate as it is both functional and sentimental. And gifting customized jewelry that you actually played a role in creating is all the more special!

There are many different directions you can go in when picking out jewelry for someone else. Consider the occasion that has prompted you to purchase a gift along with that person’s style and needs. For example, perhaps a recent grad would like a Vintage Style Wax Seal Pendant Charm Necklace with their initial on it. You could further customize this (or any SAS jewelry) with charms representing the grad’s favorite color, birthstone, or school colors. A Mother’s Love is Forever Charm necklace would be perfect for a mom-to-be or new mom, and the Double Rectangles Charm necklace (complete with the bride’s and groom’s name) would be oh-so-appropriate for a special bride.

Really, when it comes to purchasing personalized sterling silver jewelry for loved ones, practically anything goes. Add the gift receiver’s name or initial to the jewelry or highlight her children’s names or birthstones. Perhaps you’d rather add a meaningful word or phrase like believe, hope, or dream. Gemstone charms representing favorite colors or birthstones always take a piece of jewelry over the top. Whatever piece of jewelry you choose, you can be sure of one thing. The receiver will cherish the jewelry for a lifetime!
